Insolvency statistics released for July 2025

The insolvency statistics released for July show that of the 2,081 registered company insolvencies:
- There were 339 compulsory liquidations
- 1583 creditors’ voluntary liquidations (CVLs)
- 147 administrations
- 12 company voluntary arrangements (CVAs).
Individual Insolvencies
- In July 2025, 10,515 individuals entered insolvency in England and Wales. This was similar to levels in June 2025 and July 2024.
The individual insolvencies consisted of
- 599 bankruptcies
- 4001 debt relief orders (DROs)
- 5915 individual voluntary arrangements (IVAs)
- IVA numbers in 2024 and the first seven months of 2025 were slightly higher than in 2023 but lower than during 2022, which saw a record high annual number.
- In the 12 months ending 31 July 2025, one in 413 adults in England and Wales entered insolvency (at a rate of 24.2 per 10,000 adults). This is higher than the rate of 22.6 per 10,000 adults (one in 442) who entered insolvency in the 12 months ending 31 July 2024.

Breathing Space Registrations
- There were 8,400 breathing spaces registered under the Debt Respite Scheme in July 2025. This is 14% higher than in July 2024. Of the 8,400 breathing space registrations, 8,286 were Standard breathing space registrations and 114 were Mental Health breathing space registrations. Between the start of the scheme in May 2021 and 31 July 2025, StepChange Debt Charity registered 60% of breathing spaces.
