Insolvency statistics released for September 2025

The insolvency statistics released for September show that of the 2,000 registered company insolvencies:
- There were 281 compulsory liquidations
- 1,578 creditors’ voluntary liquidations (CVLs)
- 124 administrations
- 17 company voluntary arrangements (CVAs).
Individual Insolvencies
- In September 2025, 11,101 individuals entered insolvency in England and Wales. This was 3% lower than in August 2025 and 7% higher than in September 2024.
The individual insolvencies consisted of
- 622 bankruptcies
- 3,985 debt relief orders (DROs)
- 6,494 individual voluntary arrangements (IVAs)
- The numbers of IVAs registered in September 2025 was higher than the average monthly number seen in the first half of 2025.
- In the 12 months ending 30 September 2025, one in 407 adults in England and Wales entered insolvency (at a rate of 24.6 per 10,000 adults). This is higher than the rate of 23.4 per 10,000 adults (one in 427) who entered insolvency in the 12 months ending 30 September 2024.

Breathing Space Registrations
- There were 7,684 breathing spaces registered under the Debt Respite Scheme in September 2025. This is 12% higher than in September 2024. Of the 7,684 breathing space registrations, 7,589 were Standard breathing space registrations and 95 were Mental Health breathing space registrations. Between the start of the scheme in May 2021 and 30 September 2025, StepChange Debt Charity registered 59% of breathing spaces.
