Insolvency statistics released for October 2025
The insolvency statistics released for October show that of the 2,029 registered company insolvencies:
- There were 301 compulsory liquidations
- 1,592 creditors’ voluntary liquidations (CVLs)
- 119 administrations
- 17 company voluntary arrangements (CVAs).
Individual Insolvencies
- In October 2025, 10,552 individuals entered insolvency in England and Wales. This was 4% lower than in September 2025 and 14% higher than in October 2024.
The individual insolvencies consisted of
- 599 bankruptcies
- 3,846 debt relief orders (DROs)
- 6,107 individual voluntary arrangements (IVAs)
- The numbers of IVAs registered in October 2025 was higher than the average monthly number seen in the first half of 2025.
- In the 12 months ending 31 October 2025, one in 403 adults in England and Wales entered insolvency (at a rate of 24.8 per 10,000 adults). This is higher than the rate of 23.4 per 10,000 adults (one in 427) who entered insolvency in the 12 months ending 31 October 2024.

Breathing Space Registrations
- There were 7,701 breathing spaces registered under the Debt Respite Scheme in October 2025. This is 1% lower than in October 2024. Of the 7,701 breathing space registrations, 7,571 were Standard breathing space registrations and 130 were Mental Health breathing space registrations. Between the start of the scheme in May 2021 and 31 October 2025, StepChange Debt Charity registered 59% of breathing spaces.
